Welcome to Senior Kindergarten and Grade One, 2011-2012!
Children in their formative years have a boundless sense of wonder and a natural curiosity about everything around them. Our classroom environment is one that nurtures and supports this innate search for knowledge by providing opportunities for exploration, questioning and discovery. A balance of guided and independent learning ensures that the unique abilities and development of each child are addressed. A Balanced Literacy Program provides Kindergarten students with many opportunities to develop strong reading skills, while students in Grade One continue to refine fluency by exploring many different genres of literature. These students will also begin to develop their writing skills, learning to apply proper language structure, punctuation and sequence to produce meaningful writing pieces. Individual attention and the opportunity to address different learning styles and abilities, ensures that every child is consistently challenged and supported. My main objective is to enable all children to experience success, to be fully engaged in learning and to truly enjoy their time spent in school.
I value my role as your child’s primary teacher. I hope to instill a love of learning and a strong self-concept in each child that will lay the foundation for his or her future success.
