Computers. Regular access to a state of the art facility allows students to develop the required skills for today's high-tech world. Highlights of the program include daily keyboarding, programming, desktop publishing, animation, and word processing. Our computer program takes a child's natural enthusiasm for technology and encourages confidence when using a wide variety of computer applications. The Foundations computer lab is always alive with activity! Computers are also fundamental to our program, as they have become a predominate and important part of our society.

Language Arts. We believe that the ability to read and write effectively, are the most important tools students acquire during their formative years. These skills form the building blocks for future academic success. The Language Arts program begins with phonetic based reading instruction and formal spelling lessons. Novels and reading comprehension assignments are added to further develop reading proficiency. As children advance through the grades increased importance is placed on formal note taking, debating and public speaking. A love for literature and writing is nurtured throughout the Language Arts curriculum.

Skills For School Success. A program designed to teach organization and study skills forms part of our curriculum in the middle grades. Students learn a myriad of strategies required for success in the classroom. Focus is placed on study and test taking skills, effective use of classroom reference materials, time management and the use of daily agendas for organizing assignments.

Mathematics. Our mathematics program is individualized, with daily one-on-one instruction. Working at their own pace, the students are encouraged to move ahead as quickly as their ability dictates. As in all subject areas at  Foundations, work is marked and corrected daily ensuring students receive the continuous feedback they need. Emphasis is placed on teaching problem solving strategies at all levels. Concept mastery is thoroughly measured by frequent testing and daily math fact drills.

Science & Social Studies. Students' interests are stimulated by our exciting Science and Social Studies themes. Topics presented create a forum for group discussion and motivation for writing, note-keeping and projects. Emphasizing the "how to," students' hands-on learning is complemented research, questioning and
experimentation.

French. The French program at Foundations provides opportunities for students to develop basic communication skills and an enthusiasm for learning new languages. Listening and speaking are emphasized in the younger grades; then reading and writing are introduced in later years. Throughout the program, songs, games, crafts, and drama activities help to make French a dynamic and stimulating learning experience for our students.

Fine Arts. Foundations' approach is to integrate creativity into all areas of the curriculum. Our atmosphere encourages students to develop their own talents and share their skills with others. Our vocal music program prepares students for our annual theatrical production, complete with music, lights, scenery, props, and costumes. Art projects are incorporated throughout the curriculum to complement all areas of study.

Physical Education. Growing children need to be active. Physical Education stimulates co-ordination and confidence in addition to increasing memory and concentration. Students at Foundations are given the opportunity to participate in a unique program, typically including swimming, Tae Kwon Do and skating. The activities, which change each term, encourage cooperation, good sportsmanship, fun, and skill development.

Learning at Foundations does not only occur in the classroom. Our curriculum is augmented by an endless variety of after school clubs. Activities have included chess, learning to play the recorder, soccer, art classes, science club, computer programming, and cross-country running. Students are encouraged to participate, learn, and most of all have fun. Our year is also accented with special activities such as our annual ski trip, a school overnight, Halloween party, and field day.

A digital description can never capture the feeling you get when you walk into a school where children and teachers are excited about learning. We invite you to visit Foundations Private School in order to observe our dynamic program in action. It would be our pleasure to meet with you and share our educational perspectives.
